Law & Order: SVU is the king of accidental six-hour binges.
You turn it on at noon because you’re sick and too tired to move. Suddenly it’s dark outside and Ice-T is still investigating crimes on USA Network. That’s real sick day television power.
What separates SVU from other contenders is endurance. Maury burns hot. SpongeBob is chaos. The Price Is Right owns mornings. SVU owns the endless middle portion of the day where time stops existing.
And somehow every episode feels familiar even if you’ve never seen it before. You know the rhythm. The dramatic courtroom scene. Benson looking disappointed in humanity. Comfort television through repetition.
Some people may argue this belongs more in a “best procedural” bracket than a sick day bracket. Wrong. Cable rerun dominance matters here. Few shows trapped people on the couch harder than SVU.
This thing is a legitimate title contender.
