Soft-boiled eggs live in the sweet spot between convenience and yolk obsession. The white holds together, but crack one open and the center is still rich, soft, and ready for toast, noodles, or a spoon. Against hard-boiled, this is barely even the same eating experience: firm and portable versus warm and jammy. Poached eggs bring a similar textural payoff but require a completely different approach. Soft-boiled voters get to argue they have the best of both worlds—structure on the outside, richness on the inside. The only question is whether that's enough to beat the skillet favorites.
