Every family has experienced it.
You’re halfway through a normal conversation when a dad suddenly says, “You know what’s crazy about World War II?”
And just like that, the next 40 minutes belong to him.
World War II history became peak dad hobby territory because it combines documentaries, books, random trivia, military strategy, and absolute certainty. These dads somehow know the exact model of every tank ever built.
The rivalry with fantasy football is incredible because both hobbies create stat-obsessed human encyclopedias. The only difference is whether the facts involve D-Day or third-down conversion rates.
And unlike newer hobbies, WWII history carries generational weight. For a lot of dads, this stuff feels connected to family stories, old movies, museums, and childhood afternoons watching the History Channel.
Critics say history dads always hijack conversations.
History dads say people should probably learn something for once.
That argument is never ending.
