The Secret Garden (book)

A locked door. A buried key. A garden nobody has entered in years. The Secret Garden makes discovering a patch of forgotten earth feel like uncovering the greatest treasure in the world. Mary Lennox begins the story angry, lonely, and difficult to like, but everything changes as she explores Misselthwaite Manor and befriends Dickon and Colin. Frances Hodgson Burnett turns fresh air, growing flowers, and unexpected friendships into something almost magical. It doesn't have the explosive adventures of Harry Potter or the comedy of Matilda, but it captures the feeling of finding a secret place that belongs to you. Can a quieter, more personal childhood story beat the fantasy heavyweights?
