The Running Man (1987)

What happens when a dystopian television network turns survival into prime-time entertainment? Arnold Schwarzenegger gets thrown into the middle of it. In The Running Man, he plays Ben Richards, a wrongly convicted man forced to compete in a deadly game show where professional killers hunt contestants for an audience. The villains are outrageous, the costumes are ridiculous, and Arnold delivers some of his most shameless action-movie one-liners. Beneath all the mayhem is a nasty little satire about television, power, and a crowd cheering for violence. It's stranger than Commando and less polished than Terminator 2, but that's exactly why some fans defend it. Does The Running Man deserve more respect in Arnold's filmography?
