The Odyssey (2026)
Nolan took the oldest story ever told — a man trying to get home — and somehow made it feel like nobody had ever tried this before. Matt Damon as Odysseus shouldn't work on paper. It works on screen. Nearly three hours of gods, sea monsters, and one of the most satisfying acts of vengeance in cinema history, shot in 70mm IMAX across the actual Mediterranean. The casting controversy gave it more pre-release heat than any Nolan film since The Dark Knight. The movie itself gave people even more to argue about. Whether it cracks the top half of this list depends entirely on how you feel about Nolan going full mythological spectacle — and whether you think that's the best version of him or a departure from it.
