“That’s what she said!” (Michael, The Office)

Give Michael Scott an innocent sentence with even the slightest opening and you already know what’s coming: “That’s what she said!” The joke became pure Michael — juvenile, predictable, completely unnecessary, and delivered like he’d just discovered comedy. That predictability is part of its power. The Office fans can see the punchline coming from a mile away and still hear Michael saying it. But can it beat Joey’s “How you doin’?” for quotability, or Homer’s “D’oh!” for staying power? If the greatest sitcom catchphrase is the one fans still drop into conversations whenever the opportunity presents itself, Michael has a dangerous case.
