Scary Movie

By the time slashers had rediscovered their self-awareness, Scary Movie showed up ready to make the whole thing even more ridiculous. Horror clichés, recognizable movie moments, gross-out comedy, and turn-of-the-millennium chaos all get thrown into the blender. Its strongest GoatWars argument might be generational: for a huge group of voters, this is what “parody movie” immediately means. That makes Austin Powers a battle for an era, while Not Another Teen Movie pits two very different early-2000s genre takedowns against each other. Does Scary Movie survive the matchup, or is something funnier waiting behind the mask?
