Rembrandt

Rembrandt is the opposite of flashy—and that’s either why he wins, or why he loses.

Everything is dark. Brown. Heavy. Faces pulled out of shadow like they’ve lived through something.

Put him against Caravaggio and it’s restraint vs spectacle. Against Van Gogh, it’s control vs emotion spilling over.

Rembrandt doesn’t punch you. He sits with you.

But in a fast decision, does that even register? Or does he get run over by louder painters?

Call it what it is—is this depth, or just the king of mud?
