Tongue out. Brain seemingly somewhere else. Completely unbothered by Garfield’s constant disrespect. Odie’s case is built on pure goofy-dog energy. He doesn’t need elaborate adventures or clever dialogue; half the joke is simply watching him exist next to the most cynical cat imaginable. Odie versus Pluto is a battle of expressive cartoon dogs, while Odie versus Brian Griffin might be the widest intellectual gap in the bracket. Sometimes simple works.
