“Obey Your Thirst” might be the coolest slogan in this entire league. Not the funniest. Not the loudest. Coolest. That matters.
Sprite cornered 90s basketball and hip-hop culture with this campaign, and the slogan somehow felt rebellious without trying too hard. Compared to the cartoon chaos of “Yo Quiero Taco Bell,” this felt slick. Compared to “Just Do It,” it felt less corporate and more street-level.
This catchphrase also gets bonus points because people forget how massive it actually was. The commercials were everywhere. NBA stars. Rappers. Mixtape-era energy. “Obey Your Thirst” basically told people to ignore hype and trust themselves, which is hilarious because it was still selling soda.
The downside? It may not hit casual nostalgia as instantly as “Got Milk?” or “Wassup?!” But for people who grew up deep in 90s sports culture, this contender absolutely belongs in the conversation for best commercial catchphrase of the decade.
