The disguise shouldn't work. The voice definitely shouldn't work. Somehow, the whole thing works. Mrs. Doubtfire gives Robin Williams room to bounce from ridiculous physical comedy to the kind of family moments that hit completely differently when you watch them years later. As a kid, you're waiting for Daniel's next close call. As an adult, there's a whole other movie happening underneath it. That's a dangerous combination in a nostalgia league. But is it enough against the pure kid fantasy of Home Alone or the adventure of Jumanji? Hellooooo! There's only one way to settle it.
