Mowing the Lawn

Mowing the Lawn

Some dads mow the lawn.

Other dads prepare for it like Augusta National groundskeepers before The Masters.

The white sneakers come out. The headphones go on. Suddenly the backyard becomes sacred territory. Nobody is allowed outside because “the lines will get ruined.”

That’s why mowing the lawn hits harder than almost any other dad hobby. It feels productive, competitive, and weirdly emotional all at once. Every dad secretly believes his lawn says something about him.

The rivalry with home improvement projects is fascinating because they represent two totally different versions of dad pride. DIY dads want applause. Lawn dads want silent respect from neighbors driving by at 5 mph.

And unlike golf or fishing, mowing the lawn is unavoidable. Every family grew up hearing the mower outside on Saturday morning while pretending to still be asleep.

People who don’t understand lawn dads think it’s just grass.

Lawn dads know it’s legacy.
