Lawnmower Tape — Sinister

By this point, you already know the home movies are bad news. The grainy footage rolls. A lawnmower moves through darkness. You strain to see what is ahead, probably realizing half a second too late that you should stop looking.

Then the headlights expose the bodies.

The Lawnmower Tape is a masterclass in making the viewer participate. You lean closer because the image is dark, and the movie punishes you for cooperating. The sound hits like an electrical shock, but the real damage comes from the horrible realization of what the camera is about to do.

Against the Hospital Hallway, it is blunt force versus surgical timing. Against the Diner Figure, it is hidden detail versus promised nightmare. This scare feels mean, and that is part of its charm.
