Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga showed up looking like pop music had been left unsupervised.

The outfits were insane. The videos were theater. Every appearance felt capable of turning into a headline. Then she sat at a piano and reminded everybody: oh, right — she can really sing.

That's why Gaga survives beyond the shock value. Underneath the spectacle are songwriting chops, a massive voice and the ability to pivot from dance-floor maximalism to stripped-down ballads without seeming like she's borrowing somebody else's career.

Madonna is the inevitable matchup. Reinvention, provocation, fashion, spectacle — start arguing. Beyoncé creates another nasty fight because both treat performance like serious business while projecting completely different energy.

Gaga may not have the decades of dominance some contenders bring. But at her best, few people make pop feel bigger, stranger or more alive.

Is peak Gaga enough to beat longevity?
