Deadwood wasn’t interested in clean heroes or clean language. Its town was built out of ambition, violence, alliances, grudges, and people figuring out how civilization works while actively making a mess of it. That gives it one of the strongest pure “great television” cases in this field. A later film offered fans another visit, but the original series still carries the sting of ending while its world had plenty of life left. Deadwood vs. Mindhunter is prestige-TV warfare; Deadwood vs. Firefly pits a dense three-season drama against the ultimate one-season what-if. If Al Swearengen and company still own this argument for you, send Deadwood up the rankings.
