Cabaret

Cabaret doesn’t try to entertain you—it pulls you in and makes you sit with it. Dark, uncomfortable, and way more relevant than people expect. Against Chicago, it’s messier but hits harder. Against Wicked, it makes everything else feel almost surface-level. This isn’t a “fun” musical. It’s a slow realization that things are going wrong and nobody stops it. That’s why it sticks. If you think the best musical should challenge you, Cabaret belongs near the top. If you just want something you enjoy watching… this probably isn’t your pick.
